Two horse salt listings can have similar prices while containing different weights, pack quantities or accessories. Price per pound gives you a common starting point. A useful buying comparison also includes delivery, the physical format and any holder you need.

Separate unit weight from pack quantity

Start by writing down the weight of one block and the number of blocks supplied. A listing described as “4.4 lb” is not the same package as a four-pack of 4.4 lb blocks. The first describes a unit weight; the second contains 17.6 lb in total.

If a listing does not state its unit weight or package quantity, ask before calculating. Do not infer a size from a photograph or from another product with a similar name.

Calculate price per pound

Total pack weight = weight of one unit × number of units.
Product price per pound = product price ÷ total pack weight.

Here is an illustrative calculation using hypothetical prices, not prices quoted from our shop:

Example pack Total weight Example price Price per lb
Four 4.4 lb blocks 17.6 lb $44 $2.50
Two 7.5 lb blocks 15 lb $45 $3.00

The first example has a lower product price per pound. That calculation does not establish which product fits your holder or your horse’s feeding plan.

Add delivery and accessory costs

Delivered cost per pound = (product price + shipping + applicable tax + required accessories) ÷ total salt weight.

Suppose the first example costs another $12 to deliver, with no tax or accessory cost included in this simplified example. Its delivered price becomes $56 ÷ 17.6 lb, or approximately $3.18 per pound. Calculate using the actual total shown for your order before comparing suppliers.

Keep a reusable holder cost separate when planning repeat orders. Buying a complete setup the first time and buying a refill later are different purchases. A cheaper refill is useful only if it fits the holder you already have.

Compare products in the same format

Compare hanging salt licks with hanging products, and salt bricks and refills with a compatible setup. For block weights, browse Himalayan salt blocks for horses.

Products that have equal weights can still have different shapes, package contents or mounting requirements. Check those details before treating them as equivalent.

For barn, feed-store and tack-shop orders

Ask for the exact product name, units per case, unit weight, delivered quotation and current availability. Compare the number of units with the storage space and purchasing quantity you need. A case price without a case quantity cannot be compared reliably.

For larger-volume inquiries, contact Horse Salt Supply with the format, brand and quantity required. For Himalayan Pearl listings linked from our site, confirm purchasing details directly on the Global Foods USA supplier page.

Keep a simple buying record

Record the supplier, product, pack quantity, total weight, delivered total and quotation date. Prices and availability change, so use current figures for the order you are considering.
